In Winter's Hold, 6x12 Oil

New Years' Eve brought a storm to Rhode Island, and kind of put a damper on plans people might have had to go out. Me? I grabbed my camera and Tim drove me around Tiverton, Little Compton and Westport trying to get some good 'snow' shots. This painting came from a photo taken as we passed Pardon Gray, a land preserve here in Tiverton. Snowy, blustery weather is wonderful, and I think although this painting LOOKS gray, in person you can see every color in the rainbow, which, mixed together, comes out gray! I love this lonely looking tree. I have more... and will paint them soon.

  1. Good for you Kelley, taking advantage of a good weather opportunity. I have seen the best winter snow paintings on blogs this winter. Almost makes me wish I lived in a northern state. (Notice I said almost!)

  2. I love this painting. It is the solo tree in it that is so dramatic. I know where this scene is located in Tiverton and you have captured it and how gloomy the day was. Wish I could have gotten out and photographed.I was snowed in and a bit too lazy to shovel out.

  4. Kelley I love the monotones...This is definitely wintery. I just ordered a bunch of 6x12 canvases from Dick Blick yesterday...It;s neat to see one you did. I am excited to use them!

  7. I love the relationship you have with your husband, Kelley. I used to live in Newport and I remember the cold! Today in Houston it was mid-seventies. I'll just enjoy the pretty snow in your painting...
