Re-Do Butterscotches, 6x6 Po;

When I got into the studio today I couldn't BELIEVE how much I hated yesterday's post of the butterscotch candies in my mother's candy dish. I wiped it right off and that's something I rarely do. I changed the format, to a 6x6 (yes, today I remembered my Gessoboards!), changed the viewpoint ( a little), the color of the background became light blue when I put a piece of blue tissue paper over the white ground. This time I didn't worry at all about the dark side of the yellow wrapper or the twisted ends of the cellophane. I believe (and I was on autopilot when I did this, so I can't say for sure) I made the yellow cooler and darker. So! I also attempted to paint the calla lilies again, too and I'm not happy with it, so I'll put it on the Studio Blog just to show you.

  1. I really like the blue background and the new point of view on this painting.

  2. Girlfriend,
    this one's much better. Try it with something lavender to offset the gold of the wrappers. A very complicated subject. Well done.

  3. Lavender would have been great -r a neutral with lavender undertones. I always love blue and yellow together, though. I think I'm not touching this subject for a while!

  5. I didn't mind yesterday's rendition at all but I really like the way the butterscotch came out in this one. What a tough subject, but you really pulled it off.

  6. I also like this one better.......the way you did the cellophane on both are quite fantastic. The shadow on the earlier one was the only part that distracted me a bit.

  7. Bindu, Kerry and Patty, thanks so much - you know it's kind of fun doing stuff like the cellophane, things I think at first "I can't paint that", but then you just go and do it!
