Pemaquid Lighthouse, 8x5 inches, Oil

NFS
I painted this as the sun was going down at Pemiquid Lighthouse.  Kitschy?  Maybe, but when I go on location I paint what are essentially 'postcards' for myself.  Better than photographs, which live forever on my hard drive!  It was a magical evening - the shadows were growing, tourists from everywhere - and I mean that (we met a young couple from Prague!) - and the sky was just this amazing blue.  I was with Jody Regan, and we were agonizing, because we knew that back at the farmhouse, Val Vitali was cooking up something luscious, and we were late.  But. It. Was. So. Beautiful.  The heat of the day was gone and it was getting chilly.  The crowds had thinned out and the slight breeze caught the smell of the salt air.  And quiet.  Soooo deliciously quiet....
Ah, yes, dinner was waiting for us, and I swear nothing had ever tasted better.  And sitting around that big table with 5 ridiculously accomplished artists, full of good cheer and a sip or two of wine.... it was a perfect day for an artist in Maine....

  1. Beautiful lighthouse= love that perspective. I can just feel the atmosphere and would love to climb up top and check it all out. Love the way you painted the top and the little window- sweet!
Sounds like Maine was amazing and so fun. You are a lucky girl!

  5. Lovely all around. When I was there the fog blew in on it and we have some interesting photos of the mist. Glad you are enjoying yourself.

  7. I love lighthouses, and you did a special fine job in painting this one. The overall appearance is one of softness even though one knows a lighthouse is solid as a rock. Great job!!

  8. Wonderful painting, it certainly captures the feeling of New
England! Love the thick paint application, too. It looks creamy, and lush!

  9. Love the painting of the lighthouse. Lush brushstrokes on the tower, and I love the blue shadow of the building falling on the lighthouse.

Your evening with friends sounds like a wonderful time.
