Red Gerbera, 6x12 Oil

Sorry! The TOP image is the one that should've gone with this morning's post - about the teacup - many apologies for missing the boat on that one. The BOTTOM image is today's Daily Painting - it's a red Gerbera Daisy in a putty color vase. I struggled with all those neutrals, but I wanted the flower to be the JOLT of color in the painting. In other news: can't they not sell Easter candy till Saturday?????? Too tempting.

  1. Great job on the inside of the teacup. It really looks like glazed porcelein.

  2. Love the teacup! The inside of the cup is right on with the iridescent, pearl tones.

  5. Ah, thanks, Pam, it was! I love painting borrowed things. In my own house this would look so out of place, but it was fun to paint! Maura - iridescent - yes it was, and I thought it would be impossible to translate with paint! Paula ;)
Jala, to be honest, the sugar cubes were the MOST fun to paint!

  12. The teacup painting is great, Kelley!

Nice composition (I like the fallen sugar cubes).

The color combinations work so well. I love the pinks and the pastel blues with the hint of yellow on the cup/plate's rim.

Also, really good job with the highlights on the interior of the teacup. Sharp, detailed little bits of light.

One quick suggestion for the Red Gerber painting. The black background is just solid black. I think it'd be visually a bit more interesting if you added other colors or at least different tones of black.

Something so it's not completely solid, you know?

  13. Hey, thanks again everyone! Dean - I probably mixed the black a bit too smoothly - I use ultramarine, alizarin and burnt umber to get my black, but, it's a motif I've seen and liked. I probably mixed too much - but it is a crappy photo, for some reason I took 15 shots and they all reflected too much, or were a little fuzzy! Thanks, and I appreciate the honest comment!
