Pearls, 6x6 Oil
My son 'babysat' for me today so I could go to the gym and the studio for a little while! I stood there wondering what on earth to paint. I've had this bag of pearl onions for a while (you have that in YOUR studio, don't you?) so I tore it open and spilled a few onto a white cloth. What, was I CRAZY? White onions on a white cloth? Well, I looked and looked and fooled around with the lighting, and saw lavender in the cloth, green, yellow and pink in the onions.... so I quickly set about getting some paint on the board. I felt an urgency... I didn't have all day, my son was being generous, but I know that the puppy is feeling VERRY comfortable by now and is a ball of energy, and can wear you out, so I didn't want to stay too long at the studio. I came home and he'd turned into Cujo and was trying to terrorize everyone and everything in the house! All of a sudden, an hour later, he flopped into his little bed with his snuggly toys... totally done in! Sorry. I promise this will remain an art blog, not a pug blog, I just couldn't resist this photo of him. Names are down to: Kumar (we have a cat named Harold), Paco, and Nacho....

He is SO beautiful. Thankyou for posting his picture. Love the name Paco;)
ReplyDeleteThis painting is serene. The colors are right on, the golden ochre- brownish at the tips of the stems, the shadows...love it!
This puppy is so cute. And, you nailed the colors of the onions!
ReplyDeleteA marvelous little painting!! I have to go get me some onions now.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the onoins, Kelley!
ReplyDeleteI vote for Paco too.
Love your onions Kelley. Very nice painting. Baby looks more like a Paco to me...
ReplyDeleteThe white on white worked beatifully and the pug is soooo cute. Look at those eyes..
ReplyDeletethe onions are terrific! Perfect colors and composition. I think pugs always look a little like Winston Churchill. How bout Winston for a name? ha ha Couldn't you see a little cigar hanging out of his cute little mouth? I love your posts about the puppy!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Keep it coming! The onions are beautiful, I love the white
ReplyDeleteon white, you really do begin to see all the lovely colors if you
look enough. Very elegant.

Oh, you guys, thank you so much! And I DO know that pugs come originally from China, but those names aren't doing the trick! So he may just be Paco - I'm holding out a little longer - his personality is revealed more every day! and I'm on fire with new painting ideas - wish there were more time in every day, don't you?
ReplyDeleteFabulous painting with beautiful and subtle transitions. Puppy too cute, really.
ReplyDeleteLove the painting!!
ReplyDeleteI like both Paco and Nacho! Your story about your little baby is cracking me up! When we got Otis he was 9 weeks old and he was a fireball. I felt like I had a newborn baby on my hands. I was tired all the time and just plain worn out. Unlike a child it'll pass quickly but I know exactly how you feel! He is a cutie patootie!
Hilarious story about Cujo. How about that for a name?
ReplyDeleteAWESOME painting, my dear. It's perfect.
Your little puggie is beyond adorable, love the updates! The pearl onions are gorgeous, The colors spectacular!
ReplyDeleteOh I love your work....and your puppy!!! I must got get some onions for my studio immediately! :)
ReplyDeleteThe pearl onions look awesome...and of course...so does the pup!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are so funny and kind! I'm not visiting blogs too much this week, and I miss keeping up with you all! And Manon, I thought how much it was like having a baby - who doesn't wear diapers and CAN run behind furniture, eats everything it sees and cries when it doesn't see you!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelley! Very nice job with the painting ... lovely, loose brushwork. I love the "white on white."
ReplyDeleteAnd the PUPPY! Aren't they fun? (And exhausting!) Take it from one whose "pups" are now 8 months old ... take LOTS of pictures; the time goes by so fast! I thought it was funny what Sandra said about him looking like Winston Churchill. All he needs is a monacle. Hey! How about Mr. Peanut for a name?
And PLEASE keep posting pics of him growing up!
Great the color palette and composition and style! I like the way you cropped the subject and those little moments of red here and there.
ReplyDeleteLove your baby. I want him. You've picked a great selection of names. They all fit him perfectly. My personal favoirite would be Nacho Libre. He has that whole Jack Black thing going on with the muscular little body. I can just see him dressed in Nacho's red boots and cape on Halloween.
Kelley!
ReplyDeleteI really like the way the "Pearls" painting turned out. Simple composition, yet effective.
Soft and subtle color choices.
On a side note, maybe your new pup is trying to tell you something. Maybe he wants to known as Cujo!
Keep one eye open while you sleep!
