Oldie But Goodie

This is an old painting, long gone to a new home, of a Dunkin Iced Coffee.  The Donut War continues, as Susan Roden pumps up Starbucks (from New Mexico - I think we're playing 'where in the world is Susan...)... and I took a couple of days hiding in a foxhole of Dunkin Donuts,  recuperating from 2 incredible weeks.  When I think of it, I spent over 40 hours driving, had 5 days where I was 'going' for 12 or more hours a day, and landed home to a high intensity week of prepping for 2 holiday shows.  So, my plan was to spend a day this weekend in my bathrobe.  Well, that never happened, but it was a good weekend nonetheless!

Thank you all who went to the North River Show - they had a great turn out!  I am very happy.   

I have a new fun thing going on that I hope to share with you tomorrow!

It's Monday, and time for a crack at the Donut War with Susan Roden!  Actually it's turning into  a Dunkin vs. Starbucks war, and we can paint anything from those shops.  This photo is has a bit of glare in the black background - I took a zillion photos, and every one had glare somewhere!  Anyway, you know how HOT those coffees are (yes, you do, you remember someone got something like 3 million $$ for burning herself with it...) sometimes I crack the lid open to let it cool down a bit.  I haven't painted on this canvas type surface for a while, and I must say, I really enjoyed the 'tooth' grabbing at the paint on the brush!  Have a happy week, everyone.  See you tomorrow!

Well, technically not a real re-gift... I bought it to paint the week before Christmas, and.... here we are, finally! I love to paint the challenges - anything that scares me. So here we are - cellophane, a glittery ribbon, a logo! Getting ready for my workshop, AND for a trip to Austin next week, so it's busy, busy busy. Good busy, though, and I'm thankful.

Holiday Mug, 6x6 Acrylic

On Sunday evening Tim & I went to Newport and stopped in at Starbucks (hey, Coastal Roasters was CLOSED!) and they had these cool metallic mugs that I thought would be a challenge to paint. I was right! But I forged ahead, letting the paint get really thick, and letting the lights emerge from the shadow. The only huge question was whether to include the 'seam' on the wood that the cup sat on (that diagonal going from the center to the mid-right side). See, in real life there's a refletion on the mug, so I was thinking 'yes', include the reference for the reflection. I'm going to try painting it in the daylight, see how that works.
