We Want S'Mores! Oil, 6x6 inches

$100 & $10 Shipping and Handling

This month our Challenge group, Girls Just Wanna Paint chose as it's theme 'Summer Desserts'.  My first thought was "MMMmm Watermelon!", But Page Railsback's gorgeous rendition of watermelon stopped me cold.  Then I thought "Oh!  An ice cream cone!"  And I saw that Nancy Colella did one of those.  So what then?  I was stumped till we had our own cookout and my son wanted s'mores.  So... last day of the month there I am at 5:30 a.m. building a charcoal fire, by 6 a.m. I was roasting a half dozen marshmallow's to the confusion of my neighbors.  The chocolate was ooey and gooey, and the marshmallows were so FLUID, but ultimately paintable.
Happy 4th of July to all of you!

Perfect Day, 11x16, Oil

SOLD

While this is outside the usual size of a Daily Painting, I did it in 2 or so hours from life, so I'm including it on this blog. I went to Fogland Beach in Tiverton, on Friday and it was just about a perfect day. A bit of a breeze, and this lady just in her glory in her beach chair. She read, she napped, she waded into the water to cool off, she sipped her iced tea. I think I could correct the folding chair legs & support a bit but otherwise I'm leaving it. Getting a bit crazed about my Open Studio Tour this weekend...
I tried to post this yesterday but Blogger wouldn't take any posts (mine or Paco's) while I was trying. And I wasn't about to let the computer take up too much time while we had sunshine! Hope you all had a good one...

First Roses of Summer, 12x12 acrylic

This is going to be sold as a Daily Painting, despite it's size.  I couldn't find a 6x12 canvas, and I didn't want to make it a 6x6 today.  So.... These are two of the first of our roses, blooming despite our battle with worms, aphids and spiders this Spring.  Roses are so complex, I'm determined to conquer them this sumer.  But rather than work, work, and overwork this one, I'm packing some water, fruit and a book and hoofing it to the beach for an hour or so :) (must refresh the senses...)

Steamers-To-Be, Oil, 6x8

You know, I don't even LIKE clams.  To eat, that is.  I have no opinion of clams personally.  But at our Labor Day Clamboil last year I took a few out and positioned them on the counter and took their pictures, and in looking at the images this week I was intrigued by the subtle colors and the glistening of the neck things.   And then the shapes grew on me and I started drawing clams... after I did this I took out a bigger canvas, 14 x 18 - and sketched on it, but it was not big enough.  So I grabbed a 16 x 20, but once again... not big enough.  I think I finally settled on a 20 x 24 in canvas - let's see how that goes!

Two Cherries, Four Currants, Acrylic 6x6

Bounty from the garden - the cherry tomatoes look huge and motherly compared to the tiny currant tomatoes! Soon the yellow cherry tomatoes will be ready, and I'll paint them, I'm sure. I was happy with how loose I was able to keep this, considering I was a ball of tension when I started - not wound down yet from our Open Studios Tour this weekend. The tomatoes are so welcome but I hate that they signal the 'back half' of summer. I need to make a list of the things I wanted to accomplish this summer, to get back on track!

Cactus Pear Margarita, Anyone? 6x6 Oil

Last night my husband brought home deliciously ripe cactus pears from the Fruit Center Marketplace in Milton. They're hard to find where we live, and it was such a treat. Just slice the very top off and scoop out the sweet plum-like fruit for a nice portable snack, OR.... make margaritas with them! I was playing with quick, thick paint here, not fussing if my outlines remained. I think the effect is fun, and, I hope, happy.
