No need to 'adjust your set'.... The photo was one of 3 I took - all a little blurry.  I think the camera didn't know what to focus on with all that pattern!  I will try again with a different camera on Saturday, when I am in the studio again!

I love chickens - I guess you can tell.  I think they're pretty smart - though some people can't see it.  It's like people who don't 'get' cats, or dogs - you can't expect them to act in a 'people-ish' way - you have to take them on their terms.... and then I believe you will mostly find it very rewarding!  The feathers on this chicken are crazy!  Very flamboyant.  And we all know I like fun, so.... 

Oh, on Saturday night, Kathrine Lovell, a heavenly artist, (and I mean her work is divine, not religious) is having an Opening in her Studio at Tiverton 4 Corners.  I have double booked, and will miss the Opening (but my homemade hummus will make an appearance), but I will not miss this show.

Oh, I had such fun with this little Rhode Island Red Chick!  His/her baby feathers were so soft and richly colored. Yes, even a little fuzzy!

This was one of those paintings, regardless of the subject, that reminds me why I just love to paint.  The creamy strokes and paint that just glided onto the surface of the panel as smooth as you could want.  *Joy*

Field Of Sheep, 8x24, Oil

My son has asked for a sheep painting, so I'm playing around with designs.  This is one workup, but I don't think it'll make the final cut.  I do like the two fluffy sheep in the front, facing us.  I just think it might have too few sheep, or maybe I'll do it in more sepia colors, or find a photo with more clusters of the sheep.  It's a difficult format - 3 times as wide as high...  I actually like it better if you put your finger in the middle and make it two paintings!

Yesterday my daughter ran the Boston Marathon again - so proud of her!  When we saw her, at a little past the halfway point, she was smiling while running - the complete opposite of what I would be doing (crying) at that point.

These sheep are favorites of mine, from a local farm.  I love to make the paint portray their wooliness.  I'm so grateful that I can get to these farms and photograph the animals.  They have such great personalities!

Three Chickens, 6x8, Oil, and an apology

First off, let me say I'm sorry for going 'dark' on you, as they say in Vegas, this past week. Between my Open Studio Tour (which was FABULOUS! Thank you, everyone), and trying to juggle between my husband's two ancient computers.. it's been crazy. And in the computer department, thanks to my overwhelming weekend, I'm getting a brand new laptop tomorrow. Unfortunately ALL my files (photos) of my work, and even my family life (Paco's baby pictures, too) are gone forever. UNLESS I want to pay $800 for some super dude to try (no guarantees) to lift them from my old hard drive. Which, BTW, when plugged into the new computer, blew it up, so I am getting a new, new computer. THAT's the last you'll hear of my computer woes, I promise. And lesson learned about backing up files....

But I painted at Taylor Bray Farm on the Cape yesterday, and one of the paintings I did was this little chicken painting. I really like chickens, and these were so cool - black & white with red. Even though they've been raised in captivity, and never been in the 'wild', they knew, somehow, there was a Red Tailed Hawk in the tree above them. It was amazing, and they set up a sqwaking you wouldn't believe. Here they are trying to keep cool by digging a little impression in the dirt and getting as low to the ground as they could.

Hey - you're not going to believe this, but I got a painting in the Portsmouth Art Guild 'Abstration' show! How cool! Of course my image of this painting is on my fried hard drive. I'll take a photo at the Opening! Yeah, I know... ME! ;)
