Flowering Quince, 11x14 oil painting by Kelley MacDonald

$350.00 & $15 S&H

OK, it's much bigger than my usual Daily Paintings - 11x14 inches! This painting kind of came to me in a dream.  In that I dreamt about a design like this, knowing my two gorgeous flowering quince bushes were just bursting with blooms.   So, coincidentally, I stumbled on the glass panels I purchased TWO YEARS ago and promptly lost.... I knew it had to all come together.  I found a beautiful ultramarine tissue paper and put it under the glass, popped the little vase on top...and just reveled in the reflections.

I put this up on Facebook and got record numbers of 'likes' (for me, anyway!).  I had been planning to save this painting to put in the Gallery this summer, but ... I was just so tickled that it got such a rush of good responses, I thought I'd like to offer it online.  Normally, framed, this would go for double this amount, but I just get such a KICK out of people being enthusiastic about a piece I LOVE, love, love, I am happy to offer it at this price.  So, I'd be happy to see it go to a 'good' home with one of my blogger friends, I guess is what I'm saying!
Be well, all... be happy, and enjoy the blooms of Spring!

White Quince, 12x12, Oil

New camera, WOO-HOO!  I decided on a Lumix ZS7 with a 12x zoom.  I thought it would give me truer color, but.... ah, well.  These quince flowers stay mostly white when you clip them and they open indoors, but outside on the shrub they get really rosy.  When I set this up, once again, I got all nervous because of the cluster of blooms and bus at the lip of the vase, but.... yes, breathe, and just tackle once section at a time... and it worked out.  I loved seeing the little cup-shaped flowers come to life as I just painted shadows and light.... like a miracle, only really just painting!~
This painting is not for sale till June...I'l post it again when it's available!

Today my daughter Molly runs the Boston Marathon - thank all of your for your support - she is very grateful!  Wish her luck!

Quince II, 12x12, Oil

Isn't technology something?  I killed my camera yesterday and was bereft because I didn't want to interrupt blogging, and I don't want to just choose any old camera - I live by my camera, so it's got to be just right!  Well, here's a photo taken with my husband's iPhone - sent to me via email, cropped in Photoshop.... and... voila!  Funny thing... to me I'm in heaven looking at this painting because I got to use my favorite "Horizon Blue" by Holbein for the Van-Gogh inspired flat background.  My husband likes the painting EXCEPT for the background color!
This one won't be available till early June, either....  submissions, submissions!

Once again, thank you all for your comments - they matter!

Little Quince, 6x8, Oil

SOLD

Our first home had a huge quince shrub in the front yard, and it was the first time I'd ever been aware of the beautiful, delicate flowers, which have huge thorns and a bit of an oriental look to them.  When we moved to Rhode Island I wanted another quince bush, but couldn't decide on coral or white flowers, so we got both.  Every Spring now I brave the thorny branches to get cuttings of the flowers, which grow on the inside of the shrub, on the old wood.

Who WAS That Woman? And More

This painting was done about 9 years ago - before I started painting with oils. I've always loved cacti, and I think it's a half-sheet of watercolor paper.

Below are the two paintings that I got in to the Small Wonders Exhibit at the Maryland Federation of Art. They will hang till December 25. The Blueberries painting has sold, providing it comes back from the show.

Also till after Christmas these two below will be offered at the Portsmouth Art Guild's Holiday Show, in Portsmouth, RI. Sorry for the glare on the bottom photo. I thought it was clear, and now I can't re-take it till the show comes down.

Three Little Quinces, Oil, 6x6

Three Little Quinces, 6x8
$100 + $10 S&H via Paypal

These are 3 of the 4 quince that one of my quince bushes produced. I don't know if anyone does anything but make jelly with this fruit, but I don't have enough this year to put up. I was, once again, looking for a monumental feel to a small item, seen from eye level. I pile up about 6 boxes to get them to this height, and set the lamp right at the edge of the set up. Working on my sky series today, I took a slightly too-bright and sweet sunset, and dulled it down to the point where it is boring and gray. Tomorrow - CPR for that painting!
