It's been nine years, but finally I'm headed back to San Miguel de Allende to paint with my friend Paula Villanova. I will be posting paintings almost daily, such fun! This was a tiny painting from our very first trip there, in 2004. Laundry and flowers on s rooftop terrace. ❤️
Paintings of every little thing, and all the important big things as well. My view. My inspiration.....

Once Upon An Island, 5x7 inch acrylic painting by Kelley MacDonald
This weekend, I was lucky enough to spend time on a little island called Cuttyhunk. I was with artist Susan Medyn, and we painted up a storm! This view was the first thing I painted. It is looking up a hill from the gloriously clean, fine-sandy beach. The wind made it a bit raw, but we tucked back into some boulders and were protected. I was immediately attracted to the lone house on the bluff, the wind-shaped trees and the bruise-color of the sky, as a storm passed by.
Everything about this painting made me happy.. I was just in a zone. The tiny town of Gosnold on the island is charming and completely walkable. With incredible vistas from every step.
This painting is $100 plus $10 for shipping, and if you'd like it as a place to 'get away' in your mind, just email me at kcareymac@hotmail.com.

Christmas Cove, 20x24, Original Oil Painting by Kelley MacDonald
This painting was inspired by a visit to Christmas Cove (Bristol?) Maine, on my recent trip. I love the pine trees clinging to the rocks, with barely a toe hold on a small grassy area. Off to the right is the passage, by larger islands, to the open ocean. Reminds me of 'kick back time', and Maine's motto, "The Way Life Should Be..." What's not to love?
This painting is hanging at The Art Stable Gallery in Westport, MA - which, BTW has tons of new work hanging - I must say it's a great summer to be in that gallery!

Christmas Cove, 8x8 Inches, Oil
Christmas Cove, 8x8 Inches
I am a little technologically challenged here at our retreat in Maine! I have to drive into the Post Office parking lot to make a call from my cell phone, and make a 1/2 hour trip to the closest wi-fi. I just loved this little painting I got done the other morning. The light was perfect and it just seemed to flow. I don't sell the paintings I do on these trips, they are way better than postcards.
It's like a girls' camp here. We paint, we read, we tell stories, and eat very well! We are all lavishing attention on 'Maurice', as we call him (better than 'Hitler, regardless of the mustache!), who literally 'laps it all up'.

A Blessing, Original Acrylic Painting, 6x6, by Kelley MacDonald
On a painting trip to Maine last June, we were getting ready for dinner, and we noticed a rainbow over the house. Not just a regular rainbow - a double rainbow. We all ran out with our cameras, but really, it did seem to be just over our house. A house chock full of artists, all happy, creative people who worked and played hard all week under this wonderful roof - it did indeed seem like we were blessed...
And is it just me or when men/guys do a painting trip they get all kind of notoriety, and women just do it quietly and under the radar...

Blast From The Past, 20x24, Acrylic
This is from a couple of summers ago I went with a few artist friends to the Cape to paint. Cape Cod is a world unto itself. This was painted of Edward Hopper's house, overlooking Cape Cod Bay. The house sits high on a bluff, and is simple yet breathtaking. The day holds many wonderful memories, and just looking at it brings them all back!

Thursday In Nova Scotia
Raining here today, so I only got the bottom painting in before it started. Then I painted the candle we have on the table this afternoon. Yesterday no painting, just sightseeing - too too much to paint - I think you really need two weeks in a new place to get acclimated and then decide what you want to paint. I have more photos on my Studio Blog.
