Red Roses For A Blue Lady, 8x8 Inches, Oil

My son made this round - ball-like vase for me.  He remembered I said I wanted one for roses - and it's creamy white - perfect for reflecting the roses!  I got some red roses to put in it and I just love it!  Do you remember that song in the 60's "I want some red roses for a blue lady... send it to the sweetest gal in town...."?  I'm old, I know.

Above is the last painting of the workshop I just took with Leslie Saeta and Dreama Tolle Perry.  I was going to post the 2nd one I did - with the palette knife, but when I went to select it I realized I hadn't cropped it.  So... next post!  Also next post I'll show you the painting I started when we played "Musical Easels"!

  1. First off, major props to the son who listened and remembered something special his mom wanted. The vase is beautiful and those glazey reflections are wonderful. I like the roses- so loose and fun with gorgeous colors and value changes.
I love this painting that you did at the workshop- really nice colors and great brushwork:) Take care!

  3. I'm old but I don't remember the song. Love your rose painting and the fact that your son made the vase. Have heard from a couple of people how great the workshop was. Want to see your musical chair painting. Fun idea.

  4. I am old, but don't remember the song; however, your title got my attention. I especially like the pops of orange against lovely dark background; beautiful! Love your confident, bold brushstrokes in the workdshop painting; very well done!

  5. Well, I do remember that song but always thought it was a bit cheesy... But when I see those roses and that vase that your son MADE (!) the song takes on a lovely tone and meaning...

Lovely art and I am crazy about that ocre yellow one created with a palette knife.

  7. Hi Kelly, Love this little floral and your son's vase is perf!! If you haven't seen my latest post, I mentioned that I saw your painting of yellow tulips that is hanging here in the Scottsdale Art School display area in the lobby of Celebration of Fine Art. I am loving being in this 10 week exhibit, with a studio set up I am getting so much work done and being around 98 other artists is so much fun! It's all about art around here!

  10. As one "elderly", as my granddaughter likes to say, to another, I remember the song! :-) I'm just happy that I can remember it!!

I like both paintings. Your son's vase is beautiful! It really is perfect for your roses and great subject in your painting. With the dark background it is very dramatic.
