Single Rose, 6x6 Inches

I did this as a demo for my class today.. seems the internet is a-buzz with red roses - have you noticed?  Well they are very difficult to paint!  My students did an EXCELLENT job - these ladies have been painting for a month and are really learning the language of paint.
My husband reminds me (a lot) that I don't like red roses.  Which, maybe once was true, but now I'm older and appreciate everything in this world a little more.  And I absolutely love the 'glow' when light hits the red petals.
I'm posting tonight with the laptop ON TOP of the dog.  He insists on being in my lap, under the laptop. And it's his birthday today (he's 2) so I am letting him....
*my 700th post!*

  2. Congratulations Kelley on your 700th post! I am posting #222 today. The thing about counting them is that I will always be far behind artists like you, but then, I am 222 in front of someone who starts tomorrow! It is a funny community....

  3. I guess most people are doing the challenge from Daily Paintworks by Qiang Huang. This would be a great entry for it! I haven't gotten to it yet but I should with my last name! I love the leaves and rose shadow on this! Great job!

  4. Kelley,
First off, lucky students:) You would be a wonderful teacher.
Really like this rose. Colors are fabulous- the way you painted the petals of the rose is beautiful. Love the shadow and bits of glow and highlights.
Sweet Picture of Paco! Of course he wants to be in your lap and cuddling the pack leader! Happy Birthday Paco.

  10. Your 700th post!!! I would say that you are most dedicated, Kelley. I put aside 4 little red rose paintings I made, not happy with them! One has to feel the depth when looking at them and yours are very successful in that respect!
