Swirling Vase and Roses, 5x7, oil

My son made this pottery vase for me in kind of a 'swirl' pattern.  It's a creamy white and has spaces for about 5 rose stems to tuck in.  Roses continue to be a challenge for me, and so... I will continue to try to paint them! These were backlit - another thing I need practice on.
I have a poll on the top right hand side of my blog about my subject matter.  You can choose more than one.  I'm just curious about what you think my best pieces are.
And thank all of you who voted for me in that contest.  I did not make it to the Top 5, but that's OK.  I enjoyed the ride, and, I'll keep myself busy....

  1. Roses are challenging, I feel the same way. You're just brave enough to keep trying. Nice color work and glad you're part of DPO.

  2. You made it to the top 10 and that was amazing in itself. On your poll I chose the glass, etc, because you are really good with all sorts of surfaces!

  3. Lush strokes Kelley + delicate colors, with the pink so apropos for roses!
Your son made a great vase too.

  4. Ah - they're beautiful Kelley! I love this colour. You don't see them that often. Romantic and old-world...

  5. I am sorry you didn't make it. you had my vote!!!
but it is only one venue and you do have other sites for us to see your great paintings.. It was certainly not a reflection on your work;, There were just not enough people out there that even knew about the "contest"

  6. Kelly,
I am so sorry you did not get to the next rung of the Painting-a-day ladder. Your paintings are inspirational to me as an artist and a visual feast to greet me every day in my email inbox.
One good thing that came out of the contest: I did not know you existed until I looked at the entries in the contest, and now I have found you and feel I have a new artist friend! Possibly there are others-- the other contestants better 'watch out next year, it will be a good race! Keep doing what you do so well... we love you!

  8. I think its amazing you got to the top 10-but in my mind you should have won. You are the best! I checked every box in the poll as I think you can pretty much paint anything. I love the roses-and vase-just keep swimmin swimmin...

  12. Kelley, I think roses are about the hardest thing to paint...I love that you painted a vase full of beautiful roses in the vase that your son made!
