Island at New Harbor, Maine, 6x8, Oil

Blue, blue... my world was blue... sitting on the rocky coast painting the islands around New Harbor, ME last week.  Funny, when I was done painting this I packed up and turned around for a last look, and the water was FILLED with bright buoys!  I guess all the lobster traps got filled!

  1. The buoys were there all the time you were just so taken with the blue. Maybe it was windy and when you stood up you saw them. It's a great painting. I hope it becomes a big one someday.

  2. Did you get a photo of the buoys? I read Meeze's comment and had to laugh because it sounds like something I would do (miss something right in front of my nose). Great job.

  3. Meeze, I went to my photos and enlarged - you were RIGHT! When I started painting, though, the light was lower, and when I wrapped up it was almost noon - sun right over us picking up the bright colors of the buoys!

  4. I have always admired yet found difficult to paint monochromatic paintings Kelley, so very fascinated with this little gem! Handled your blues well.

  5. Beautiful! I am back from 9 days at the beach and about to start my series. So your beautiful work is a great comfort that it can be done well and simply.
