*note... I accidently priced my small paintings $25 less than
my last event - $50 each at Art In The Barn, North River Festival! this weekend only!*
When I was a young and very foolish woman I actively disliked Peonies. I had my husband dig up (I'm shuddering just thinking of this) vast beds of them around our first house because they had ants all over their flowers. Years later when I learned how wonderful gardening is and flowers in general I repented - and then begged for Peonies all around the yard. I know now the ants help eat the sticky stuff off the petals so they can open. I have 4 beautiful varieties in the yard, now, these being the simplest, just white - with, occasionally, a streak of magenta along the edge of a petal.

Sublime.

Hi Kelley - the shadows are striking yet subtle. Adds so much to the richness of the white.
ReplyDeleteI love peonies, even thogh they are short lived. Mine are pink. Nice painting, and have a great festival.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you painted the petal edges, they look absolutely "peony"!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous, Kelley! I really like the color palette with it's golds and pale pale pinks on that dark background.
ReplyDeleteYou did such a good job on this difficult subject. I had one little Peony bloom (they don't grow well down here) but it was so beautifully complex that I lost my nerve when it came to painting it. I admire your talent!
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! I like the many colors of white in the petals.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous flowers, and what a gorgeous painting!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Peonies are my ALL-TIME favorite flower. So glad you have amended your ways. This painting shows your love and affection for them - such great depiction of their delicate nature.
ReplyDeleteYour painting is sublime, too. I used to have a white peony bush that I painted every spring. I miss it. Thanks for sharing yours with us!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered peonies myself and am dying to paint them. My sister has pink ones in her yard... Next time I go over there I will take a snip. Fantastic painting... I hope to see your work in life someday, it seems to have such a nice texture, lovely.
