Happy Bubbles, 12x12 Inches, Acrylic

This painting is a donation to the Dana Farber Cancer Hospital's Fundraiser.  I paint the bubbles/foam that hovers at the edges of the waves, both here on the Sakonnet River and on the ocean nearby.  I used to use more 'local' colors, the tan sand and the blue water, but lately I've been experimenting with colors that simply make me happy.  I hope the joy I felt in painting this travels to the person who takes it home - spreading the joy around!

P.S.  HUGE thank you to those who attended my Opening at Nest - we had 5 red dots (almost a quarter of the total!) and I met some wonderful folks, including Gay and Brooke, who along with Molly Jackson are owners of Nest, and fun and fascinating people in their own right!  Thank you to those who drove so long and so far to GET there - I'm sure you loved the things they have in that shop, too.  I went home with a mental list for future shopping :)

  2. These are happy bubbles and it makes me happy to look at them as the colors are fantastic. What a wonderful break from reading a chapter in my anthropology textbook. It is so dry and your painting is so wet and mythical--crazy contrast.

  3. Congrats on the Nest show and just know anyone near by there will scoot over to check it out. Lucky folks to get to see your collection!
Love these Bubbles and they are happy indeed. Inspiring that you chose the universal colors for breast cancer but added the gorgeous blues in the bottom. Would love to see a video of how you do this. A favorite and could look at them all day! Generous of you to donate:)

  5. Wow, so happy for you Kelley...would have been there if timing worked but thrilled for you. These bubbles are very cool. And so nice for the donation. I have something donated to the Arsenal Center for the Arts Art-O-MAt show and seem to have gotten on the donate to PBS and a whole host of other places lately...hmmmm.....great weekend weather...hope you enjoyed it.

  6. Thanks, guys! Kathy, it's so funny, but I never gave the 'cancer colors' a thought! And a painting like this take so very much longer than a 'traditional' painting - so many layers - at least a dozen, and the dry time in between - plus the textures. But it is pure pleasure, design and color, and there's a lot to say for that!
