Big fan of tulips, here. Any color, any kind. A few years ago a few fellow painters and I made a trip to Holland to paint the tulip fields. We did our research, but ended up arriving after 5 days of a freak heat wave that killed all the tulips! No matter, we found one field that was being mowed under, and painted like crazy. Then we went to Keukenhof , a gardener's dream come true. Also Holland itself was very beautiful, and paintable. I will definitely return. The Van Gogh Museum alone was worth the trip.
I'm with you when it comes to tulips. These are great, Kelley.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great trip...and a lovely, lively place. The museum for Vincent had so much impact on me. Being amidst such a collection of his work was very moving. He'd probably like your tulip painting.
ReplyDeleteI think I just might paint some tulips this morning! I like the dramatic background...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed re -living your Holland trip-I went there once and loved it!
These tulips are beautiful and the black background is really striking.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks, Carol! Paula, do you remember how BIG those paintings were?
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing your trip to Holland...and the tulips are great against that dark background.
ReplyDeleteOh - that sounds like a dream trip. I would love to see the museum! van Gogh is one of the painters I most admire. Your tulips are good and full and you really got the tricky greens in the leaves.
ReplyDeleteLovely painting. The yellow tulips are dramatic against the black. I'm jealous of your trip to Holland. It looked wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHey, Sal! *sigh* Amsterdam....
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kristeena, Pat and Kim!
Kelley, I was going for 'drama' in this one...
Me too! Any color as well.
ReplyDeleteLove this!
I haven't bought any tulips here because Publix doesn't treat their cut flowers very well and the tulips are a bit tired looking.
So is there a subject you don't blog about?
ReplyDeleteYou succeeded with the drama factor. Great painting.
ReplyDeleteI looked at your Holland blog. What a wonderful trip!
Great design...love the way they seem to be reaching for the sky!
ReplyDeleteKelley , really beautiful! I love the thick paint on the tulip petals, also love the dramatic contrast of the black ground with the pale yellow!
ReplyDeleteNice and dramatic with that black background. I like tulips too--I like their simplicity of form (well, I should say I like the simple-looking ones).
ReplyDeletePlanted a few bulbs last fall for the first time and dying to see them...they're still budding.
These are exceptional!
ReplyDeleteIt's that time of year for tulips!
ReplyDeleteParrot tulips are my absolute favorite!
