Yearning for the beach... yearning for warm (but not too) warm weather... In addition this month my Challenge Group's topic will be Beach Day, so there may be a few of these beachy paintings. In this one... I'm remembering the time limit my Mom used to put on us before we could go swimming after lunch. One hour. 45 minutes if we only went in up to our knees. So unfair, but with the thought of drowning from a stomach cramp... we obeyed. Well, I did. I am sure my husband, as a child, did not. We joke that we should have t-shirts: mine would say "Plays Well With Others" and his would say "Runs With Scissors". Fortunately we both survived childhood!
It was a wonderful birthday, Wednesday, thank you all for your notes on Facebook, emails etc. One funny thing....
This pocketbook (pug shaped) arrived, and when I opened it Paco jumped up and grabbed it by the ear - he thought it was a 'baby' for him!
Love the painting. You had to wait an hour before swimming? my mom only made us wait 30 minutes, but that was only if we would stay in the shallow end on the pool. It must have been something about the 60's!
ReplyDeleteOhhh you captured the moment in that painting!!! Perfectly!
ReplyDeleteWe love the little pug pocketbook! Its precious!
love
tweedles
I still wait a half hour!
ReplyDeleteSo charming!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece; I love how you've handled the water itself, Kelley. And your title made me smile for I too remember those anticipation moments after eating before being able to get back into the water.
ReplyDeleteOne hour, not a minute less. And the funny part is, as I remember, it was not just our moms, it was kind of a general practice, wasn't it? Anyway, it's amazing we're all still here and didn't succumb to those "stomach cramps." It's cute that Paco thought he had a "baby" to play with...he must have been so excited!
ReplyDeleteGreat painting and the pug pocket book is wonderful. Glad you had a good birthday.
ReplyDeleteCute little girl! My mother made us wait, too.
ReplyDeleteLove it!! I just got back from the beach - Mayan Riviera - and still miss it. What can I say, I'm just a beach kind of girl. This is a wonderful painting! Keep dreaming of the beach and you will surely get there soon. xoxo
ReplyDeleteEhy, not fair! My mom made us wait two hours! I guess Italian lunches take longer to digest, with all that pasta and three courses...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love the painting! Yearning for the beach here too. :)
Nice little painting Kelley, I can feel the girls desire, great job on the water too. A put pocket purse? What will they think of next? Too funny
ReplyDeleteOh, how fabulous, Kelley! It brings back a torrent of my own childhood beach memories!
ReplyDeleteToo cute! Sounds like you & your husband are a great pair. Love the pocketbook.
ReplyDeleteLove this one! I so remember waiting an hour before swimming after a meal!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous water in that painting and I can feel her just waiting...Glad you had an awesome bday:) And a pug purse too!!
ReplyDeleteKelley Happy Birthday! How appropriate for someone with your name to almost be a St.Patrick's Day baby!
