I love this Chinese Proverb: "When you have only two pennies left, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other". This stalk of lilies was just a stick with uninspiring buds when I bought it on Sunday (yes, it cost more than one penny!), but they bloomed and seem to reach out to give, not receive joy.
