This 8x10 is one I left for my hostess at the beach house. I loved the way the light hit the closed green shutters! I did it at early light, and it is a house across the street that you could see from the kitchen windows. No fear, I did it outside. However, I foolishly laid it down on the patio to dry out a little in the heat of the day, and left to paint somewhere else - and all kinds of sand, dirt, and debris blew onto the wet paint. When the paint is dry she can brush this off, but sheesh!
I love doing this, leaving a painting for the owner of a place I've gone to paint. I have another paint-a-thon coming up this Fall on Cape Cod, where I get to stay the week and paint like crazy, and they get to choose a painting. Wonderful for me, I hope also wonderful for them! They get to collect original art and it's off-season, so they're not really losing any money! So! If you know of anyone who has a vacation home and would like to trade a painting for time spent there in off-season, let me know!
I have a vacation home-we live in it year round but you can come stay anytime! She will love this- dirt and all!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, Kelley. one of the things I hate about plein air. last time I did that the painting was blown over into a pile of pine needles...eek
ReplyDeleteI like the morning light on the fence.
ReplyDeleteLovely painting - the colors are so pleasing and you are right about the light on the green shutters. Summer paintings have a special glow about them - even with a bit of debris! Vacation home painting - now there's a life!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and generous idea...sorry about the dirt, but I would take a Kelley MacDonald original, dirt or no dirt!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting! I love all the blues! What a thoughtful "thank you" gift, on of a kind, and completly original
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting Kelley. Sorry about the sand ... but fortunately it will come off. Thanks so much for your support of our radio show!
ReplyDeleteoooh, paint-a-thon - ?
ReplyDeletedo tell - I'd love to know how you set this up!
You could put together your own "Borrowed Views" book. What a great portfolio that would be!
ReplyDeleteKell, have you ever been to lovely, balmy Dallas in August? I'll paint your house if you'll paint mine! : )
ReplyDeleteThis post reminds me of when I laid a 3 foot freshly gessoed canvas on the bathroom floor and a little pug made beautiful white pawprints on the hardwood after scampering over it...
A friend of mine left her painting out to dry and the seagulls pecked holes in the canvas! She used it as a selling point. :D
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely painting despite the specks of debris.
Love the light in this painting! Your hostess will LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteAnytime you are in the Dallas/Fort Worth area you MUST stay with me!! I would love one of your paintings - and I would like to get to know you, too!!
Thank goodness the hazards of plein air outweigh the joy of experiencing and painting in different locations. Well, it looks like it is decided (thanks to Linda & Nancy), the next time you're in Dallas... :-)

ReplyDeleteAngela - I didn't realize you were in Dallas, too - I would really have pushed to tag along on this convention if I'd realized there were THREE blogger friends in Dallas! I will get there....
ReplyDeleteKelley!
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a neat effect! At first I thought maybe you splattered paint on the finished canvas!

Kelley somehow I missed this post. Love the painting. Little bits all over the painting? Around here there are "no see um bugs" that appear out of no where when you plein air paint!!!
